Understanding the Medical Licensing Assessment (UKMLA) Transition
The General Medical Council has unified medical licensing assessments for both UK domestic graduates and International Medical Graduates (IMGs) under the Medical Licensing Assessment (MLA) framework.
For Pakistani doctors, the operational structure remains very familiar: PLAB 1 has become the MLA Applied Knowledge Test (AKT), and PLAB 2 has become the MLA Clinical and Professional Skills Assessment (CPSA).
The examination blueprint continues to evaluate common, serious, and emergency medical presentations encountered during UK Foundation Year 2 practice. You will be tested against the GMC’s Good Medical Practice standards, UK patient confidentiality laws, and clinical prioritization algorithms.
Importantly, passing scores achieved on PLAB 1 remain fully valid under the modern transition timeline, allowing candidates who initiated their journey under PLAB to finish seamlessly without administrative restarts.
